Who We Are
Wakenya Watenda Wema is a charity organization dedicated to touching lives and creating smiles by supporting vulnerable children and less fortunate families in our communities.
Through acts of compassion and community support, we reach out to children and families facing difficult circumstances. We believe that every child deserves love, protection, education, dignity, and an opportunity to build a brighter future.
Our work is made possible by people who come together with willing hearts to give, volunteer, participate in our outreach activities, and share what they have with those in need. Together, we turn compassion into action, touch lives, and create lasting smiles.
What We Do

— We Support Orphans & vulnerable Families
We reach out to vulnerable children, families, children’s homes, rescue centres, and communities facing difficult circumstances. We take time to understand their genuine needs and identify where our support can make a meaningful difference. we provide food, clothing, shoes, school supplies, personal-care items and other essential needs. Our goal is not simply to give, but to restore dignity, hope and a sense of belonging.

— We Rescue, Protect & Restore
We respond to children living in vulnerable situations, including street-connected children and those who need protection, care or a safe environment. Where possible, we work with the appropriate caregivers, rescue centres and communities to help connect children with safety and support. We believe every child deserves protection, love, education and an opportunity for a better future.

Our mission goes beyond giving material assistance. We seek to create meaningful human connections, restore hope, encourage the vulnerable, and remind every child and family we meet that they are valued and cared for. Through mentorship, education support, empowerment, community outreach, and acts of kindness, we strive to create positive and lasting change—touching one life and creating one smile at a time.

—We Mentor & Empower
We organize mentorship and empowerment programs for children and young people. We create opportunities for them to talk, learn, be encouraged and receive guidance about life, education, discipline, responsibility, self-worth and their future. We also intentionally support the boy child, creating spaces where boys can be heard, mentored, encouraged and reminded that their lives and dreams matter.

— We Promote Dignity & Well-being
We organize sanitary-pad drives for girls and women who may struggle to access menstrual-hygiene products. We also mobilize donations of clothes, shoes and personal-care items for vulnerable communities. Through these initiatives, we seek to protect dignity and ensure that lack of basic necessities does not become a barrier to education, confidence or everyday life.

—We Visit, Care & Include
Our compassion extends across generations and abilities. We visit children’s homes, street-connected children, rescue centres, homes for older persons, and centres supporting people with disabilities and different abilities. We spend time with them, listen to their stories, share meals, offer practical assistance and remind them that they are seen, valued and loved.

—We Nurture Faith, Hope & Character
We believe that caring for a child goes beyond meeting physical needs. Through prayer, spiritual programs, mentorship and values-based teaching, we encourage children to grow in faith, hope, discipline, kindness, integrity and responsibility. We create opportunities for them to learn spiritual principles, discover their value and purpose, and develop strong character that can guide them throughout their lives.
Impact Stories
Restoring Dignity, One Child at a Time
Behind every child we meet is a story, sometimes a story of hardship, rejection, hunger, loss or simply growing up without some of the things many of us take for granted. Yet behind that story is also a child with dreams, laughter, potential and a heart that longs to know that someone cares.
Sometimes we arrive carrying food, clothes, shoes, sanitary items or other necessities, but we leave realizing that the greatest gift was not something we carried in our hands. It was sitting beside a child, listening, sharing a meal, praying together, laughing together and reminding them, “You matter. You have not been forgotten.”
Every smile we create strengthens our belief that even a simple act of kindness can become a beautiful memory in someone’s life. We may not be able to change the whole world at once, but together we can change someone’s world one life, one smile and one act of love at a time.
We Give, We Love, We Leave Changed
When we walk into a children’s home, meet a child living on the streets, spend time with a person with different abilities, encourage the boy child, or sit beside an older person, we do not want to simply deliver donations and leave. We want to create a moment that says, “You are important. Your story matters. Someone cares about you.”
We share food, clothes, shoes and other necessities, but we also share something that cannot be packed in a donation bag, our time, our presence, our laughter, our encouragement and our love. We listen to stories, mentor, pray, teach, play and create memories together.
And sometimes, the people we go to encourage end up changing us too. Their smiles teach us gratitude. Their strength teaches us courage. Their stories remind us to never take our blessings for granted.
We may arrive hoping to touch a life, only to discover that the life we came to touch has touched ours too. That is why we keep going. That is why we keep serving. That is why we keep creating smiles.
